He encourages joint exploration of the past and present, facilitating acceptance and awareness of inner experiences (e.g., sensations, emotions, thoughts, memories) and relational patterns. He strives to help people gain insight into problematic emotions and interpersonal relationships, move toward new ways of experiencing and relating in the world, and commit to pursuing one’s life values.
Mike draws flexibly from multiple therapeutic approaches, including acceptance and commitment therapy (i.e., ACT), emotion-focused therapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, and solution-focused therapy. His core values of compassion, curiosity, genuineness, and interpersonal connectedness are deeply influenced by his Christian faith.
